Montessori children first experience new concepts in a broad sense, and gradually work their way to the finer details. The Montessori flags are a great example of this. The flags are very appealing to the child, often leading to deeper geographical and cultural studies. As a continent is introduced, the child has the opportunity to explore the flags belonging to its countries. As the child progresses, they may begin to match the flags to their countries, learn the names of the countries, and recreate their own flags.
